I will temporarily relocate my studio to their facilities and create work at the center. Craftworks is a non profit arts center that focuses mainly on STEAM art education of the sciences and art. They are also an environmental preservation project, read more below.

T.W.E.P. is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. Their goal is to connect people to nature through education. Their property includes a narrow strip of forest between James Buchanan High School and James Buchanan Middle School where I am currently the Artist-in-Residence. The work created from this workshop can be viewed here.

The purpose of this project is to provide students the opportunity to work with nature and create public artworks. These projects demonstrate each student’s ability to independently approach the issue of how to create an environmentally friendly art project, using only elements found at the TWEP nature walk. The public art tour also serves as a means to create awareness and appreciation for TWEP and similar environmental or habitat conservation projects.

Before designing the artworks each student researched Andy Goldsworthy, a world renowned artist that combines avant-garde art practices with nature and conservation. Finally each artwork is marked by a plaque with the artist’s name, title of their work, date, materials, artist statement, and a quote by Andy Goldsworthy.
